Forum Membership Exploding

24 April 2006 - Wilderness graphical update

Wilderness Update We are continuing to improve the graphical look of our older areas of map to bring them up to the same standards as the new areas we've been developing. This week we've updated the graphics throughout the Wilderness, so if you're feeling particularly brave, check out the new lava areas, castles and an extremely fiery volcano. To help you get around all of this, we've also introduced some new teleportation portals. The portals act as a new way of travelling around the Wilderness, but be careful: Once they're activated, there will be a short pause after which everyone in the immediate area will be transported to another portal, so don't rely on them to get you out of trouble. You may find that trouble follows you through... and you might end up in a higher level of Wilderness! Battle Tortoises The ingenious gnomes are continuing to come up with new ways to battle the Khazard troops. Now they've started breeding battle tortoises at the Stronghold. These armoured tanks, mounted by gnomic magi and rangers, are sure to be quite a challenge for General Khazard and his troops. They've already trundled some of them out onto the battlefield south-west of Ardougne. Adjustments to Pest Control We've made some adjustments to the Pest Control minigame we released last week. Firstly, the game has been encountering issues where people turned up at the island with no intentions of helping to win, but just to stand around and get the rewards due to the efforts of their teammates. This is clearly not in the spirit of the game, therefore you now need to have dealt at least 50 points of damage to the attacking monsters over the course of a game to get a reward. To keep things fair for players who spend their time repairing the defences on the island, each section repaired counts as doing 5 points of damage. Secondly, we've put in a level 40 combat requirement to board the lander and play the game. Each player in a game of Pest Control increases the number of monsters in the game. As a lot of the monsters are pretty tough, this meant that it was extremely hard for lower level players to contribute enough to the team effort to make up for the added difficulty their presence had created. We've also made it so that if more than 25 people board the lander, the people left behind will be given priority in being transported to the island on the next game. We are planning some more changes, most significantly the ability to spend your Void Knight Commendation points on a greater variety of things than just combat xp. Taking a cue from the popularity of decorative armour from Castlewars, we are planning to make it so that you can earn that cool looking equipment you may have seen the Void Knights wearing. If you're wondering about the Wilderness Tag minigame we mentioned in the monthly Behind the Scenes announcement, we've put that on hold for the moment. We felt that it could do with adjustments to make it enjoyable enough to meet your high standards.

Quick Update

Hi guys and girls, I'm off out again today (Hopefully, I need some time away from the computer lol). So I might not be online or on the forums tonight. I just thought I'd share a few things with you. First of all, someone emailed me, and asked me what my email was? lol oh dear, no hope. Secondly I got this email from someone who subscribed himself and obviously forgot: "dear idiot who keeps sending me tips to one of the worst games of all time please stop i'm just sending them to junk idiot because runescape is a game for little winny babies" Obviously this guys needs to get a life, runescape is the best :), and the only person who is a whiney little baby is him. I got another email from someome: "do you have an old acont i can have if you dont can you atlest help me get my level up.plz" Firstly, nope, no free accounts, ever. Secondly, what do you think the site is for? lol It's sole purpose is to help everyone get their levels up and make money, silly person. New Website Ranking System

Hi guys and girls, I've got a potentially exciting announcement for you. I'm implementing a website ranking system, so all you website owners out there can submit your sites and be ranked accordingly. The way it will work is like this: You'll go into the site (This one) and click on the "Runescape Top 100" link (When I put it there) and then you sign up and can submit your website. Then you'll put a link back to this website on your website, and every time somone clicks on that link, you'll get 1 ranking point. The more ranking points you get, the higher up the list you'll go and the more people going to the website you'll get :) So everyone wins. 20 April 2006 - Pure Essence on free servers

It has been brought to our attention that some free players who used to be members have had their essence converted into pure essence which they now can't use. Don't worry, we are aware of this and are working to fix it. In next week's update we will make it so that whilst free players can't mine any more pure essence they can however still use/trade any which was automatically converted. If you haven't already read it, then please see the previous news post entitled Rune Essence adjustment for more details on the Rune Essence changes.

20 April 2006 - Rune Essence adjustment

Today we have made an adjustment to rune essence mining due to players breaking rule 7 and rule 12, using macros to mine the rune essence and then sell it. As you are probably aware we have various systems in place to detect people breaking rule 7 and ban them. These systems work very effectively at detecting people breaking this rule, and make macroing a really bad way to try and train a high level character. The problem we are now solving is not a problem with our macro detection systems which are still working well, but rather a problem with banning being an ineffective punishment against abusers who only use very low level accounts, and who have no intention of ever playing the game properly. Over the last few weeks we have banned literally hundreds of accounts a day for macroing at the rune essence mine. However the bans were ineffective as the abusers could just create more low level accounts that they didn't care about to mine more. We also track trades so we can ban the recipiant of the illegally obtained items, but the abusers in this case were swapping the runes for gp, and then selling the gp for real world money on auction sites. Of course the person buying the gp for real world money gets banned, because we track the money they received in an unbalanced trade to a macro account, but the seller doesn't care that their customers get banned shortly after, as they have their real world money by then. The fundamental problem is that rune essence was one of the few areas of the game which could be used to generate a reasonable amount of RuneScape money on a 'throwaway' low level free account. Normally to earn large amounts of money quickly you need to level up an account first, and then of course you care if it gets banned so our normal deterrent is effective. We have therefore split rune essence to have 2 grades. Normal essence can only be used to make the six basic runes, whereas pure essence can be used to make any rune. You can mine both types of essence at the same place as before. The kind of essence you receive is automatically decided when you mine the rock. You will always get pure essence only if your mining is over 30 and you are on a members' world, otherwise you will get normal essence. As a one-off event whilst we introduce this, existing essence in your bank and inventory will have been automatically converted to pure essence if you are a member or have other members-only items in your bank, provided you have level 30 mining or runecrafting. Since free players can only craft the six basic runes anyway, the normal essence is just as good for its intended purpose of letting free players do low level rune crafting. However it is not so useful for selling to members who want to make law and nature runes (who we believe buy the vast majority of rune essence in Runescape) which should reduce its price significantly and make it a much less appealing proposition for real world traders. The only people who should be significantly affected by this are players mining very large amounts of essence on free accounts purely to sell to members. There are better way of making money on high level free accounts anyway, so this change should only really affect players trying to making large amounts of money on a low level free account - which is of course the exact idea. We would also like to yet again remind our players NOT to break rule 12 and be tempted to buy RuneScape gold for real world money. Nearly all the gold being offered for sale in this way was generated by cheating on 'throwaway' accounts. If you buy it not only are you encouraging further cheating, but you run the very real risk of being banned yourself as the money you receive is dirty money and will be tracked. Again we have banned countless players for breaking rule 12 and fuelling this problem, and will continue to do so. We hope most players will agree we shouldn't let rule breakers spoil this game, and we are determined to not let them do so. As well as banning, where necessary we will also make minimal changes to the game to make rule breaking unviable.

Pest Control

The Void Knights are a military order who have helped serve Guthix and his penchant for balance since the early Fourth Age. It is their job to ensure that the flux of good and evil coming through to RuneScape each day remains constant, but there are some beasts they find more difficult to accept than others. On a series of islands in the far south of the world they have found some portals that are nothing but pure evil, which must be shut down at any cost. Pest Control, the biggest update of the month is finally here! This update includes: A new cooperative combat-based minigame 7 new kinds of deadly monster A new island featuring a bank and shops A new food item: field rations Protect the Void Knight from the invading hordes for 20 minutes or go and destroy the portals yourself while your friends rebuild the smashed barricades left behind you. With boats visiting the portals as soon as enough volunteers are available, we are confident this game will become a firm favourite for fans of cooperative gameplay. Dying during the Pest Control game is the same as dying in Castle Wars (no item loss and no trip to Lumbridge), so you have no excuse not to visit! Speak to the Squire at the southern end of Port Sarim to try out Pest Control today!

Sorry I haven't been online

Hi guys and girls, Sorry I haven't been online the past 2 days. I lost my internet connection. It's always been a bit dodgey, but this time it decided to die on me and didn't want to come back. So I had to go out and buy another internet router, guess what, that one didn't work either. I returned it and got another one, this one worked for about an hour and died. This time I wanted to try something different, I basically pulled out all of the wiring from my computer downstairs and stuck it in the one upstairs (The one I normally use), tada, woo, yes, it worked, ad still it (As you can tell lol). I'm working on some more guides, magic (Needs more work), started a combat one and started a ranger one as well. Someone submitted a pk'ing guide to me recently, so I'll try and put that up for you as well :) I've never really been one to bother with quests, but I know that runecrafting in the abyss is MUCH quicker. So I'm going to need to do the hero's quest (To re-charge several glory amulets). I'm planning on buying maybe 9 glory amulets once I've done the hero quest. I'm also gunna try and get my herblore up a bit, as it's only 1 at the moment lol. Then I can make prayer potions to help me out in the abyss. When I next have an update, I'll let you know. Never Run Through The Abyss Naked

Hi guys and girls, I hadn't been to the abyss for a while so I wanted to try and experiment with something. "How long will I last while running through the Abyss with nothing on and nothing with me"? I tried it. The answer is not very long at all lol. I ran through and died before I got a quarter of the way round lol, so less than 2 minutes I think (I didn't time it though lol). Next time I think I'll take a few prayer pots and armour lol. Also, the forum is still going very well, we're getting very close to breaking the 100 members mark. And I know it wont stop there. Hi guys and girls, Yet ANOTHER runescape update, that's 3 in 1 day lol Today we have released the new version of the RuneScape forums, improving on the style and look of the old forums. As well as making it easier to navigate around, we have removed the need to log in to the forums in order to read them. Members will still be able to post by logging in using the link at the top of the forums page. We have also added a host of new features - here are some of them: Bump buttonIf you look next to the reply button, you'll see a new feature - "Bump". Clicking this will move the thread to the top of its forum. This feature has been added to remove the need for people to post "bump" messages, which will in turn make it much easier to see the actual conversation in the thread. Note you can only bump your own thread, and you can only bump one thread every 10 minutes, to avoid this system being abused. Message previewsThe message preview feature will allow you to know what your message will look like before it's posted. You'll find the "preview" button next to the "add" button when you're adding a message. FMod and JMod coloursJagex Moderator posts have changed, so that now they will be gold. There will also be a gold crown next to their names. Similarly, Forum Moderators will have a green crown next to their name as well as keeping the green background on their messages Smilies!When you add messages, you can also add smilies :)! Check the smiley legend (available when adding a message) to see what smilies you can use. User profilesIf you're logged in, on the main forums page, in the top right, you'll see "My Profile". This shows the list of the last threads you posted in, as well as your post count and gives you the option to turn smilies on or off. Quick-Find codesAt the very bottom of a thread page there is now a "Quick Find Code" - if you put this into the "Quick Find" box at the top of the page it will take you back to that thread. Easter Bunnies Infext Runescape

Hi guys and girls, Another runescape update is afoot :) Easter bunnies are infesting RuneScape! Children around RuneScape were expecting the Easter Bunny to bring them eggs this week, but instead of one big bunny they have found dozens of little ones! The bunnies are contained in two areas, south of Falador and north-west of Varrock. Unfortunately the new rabbits haven't quite grasped the spirit of Easter, and rather than handing the eggs out they are burying them in the ground. Bring a spade to dig them up again and give them to the children (or eat them yourself). One of the eggs has a rather interesting effect that will unlock a new emote, and, if eaten in the correct place, will open up a whole new area. If you venture into the rabbit warren you can discover who is behind the rabbits' strange behaviour, and perhaps even earn a new magical ring. The Easter eggs will all melt on 24th April, and the rabbits and their warren will disappear. Players who have unlocked the new emote will still be able to use it, and those who have obtained the magic ring will be able to keep it. warmest regards stephen warren www.runescape-tip.com

Runescape Update - Rag And Bone Man

Hi guys and girls, There's a runescape update you should know about. If you are travelling along the road from Varrock to the Temple on the River Salve, you might notice the camp of the Rag and Bone Man, who is looking for help, and would not turn down a hand, leg, or any other bone to be honest! His expanding collection needs to be finished off. Low level players will be able to help him complete the bare bones of the quest. More experienced players will then be able to help him further and get extra rewards. Good luck and bone voyage! Armour model changes You will find that we've altered the appearance of a small number of armour items in this week's update, including chainmail tops, the camoflage kit and certain pieces of kit found in the Barrows. These changes are to make the models more flexible for animating. With these changes it will allow us to do more impressive animations of your characters in the future. Of course some players will prefer the new models, whereas others will prefer the old ones. But once you also bear in mind that as well having an improved new look, this allows a greater range of animations, we feel it's definitely worth the change. Great Response and a special suprise

Hi everyone, Wow, I'm getting a huge response from some people on my request to spread the word about this website and the free newsletter. Some of the stuff people are doing is truely incredible. One guy sent a message to his entire msn contact list (150 people), now that's dedication lol. I should have made something clear yesterday though. DON'T post about the website or newsletter in the runescape game itself, as runescape don't allow this and you might get in trouble, but anywhere else is perfectly fine :) So keep on spreading the word. Got up to level 62 magic, now I'm using wind wave, which uses bloods, quite expensive indeed lol, infact double the price of deaths lol. I'm probably gunna have to do a bit of nature crafting because I bought 500 blood runes and I just used them all up lol. I need about 2,200 bloods before I'm level 66 magic, darn, that's gunna be expensive lol, I might just have to go back to deaths for now, as I would need 2350 of them to get to level 66, as you can see, it's quite a bit cheaper lol. So I just wasted 300k on 500 blood runes when I could have had 1000 deaths runes and get more experience, well you live and learn lol. Hey Big Spender

Hi guys and girls, I just spent 960k on deaths lol (That's 3000 death runes). Wow, big spend all at once, lol. It certainly did a bit of damage to my cash flow, but all in the name of getting my mage up :) But to balance it all out I made 2k nature runes today and sold them all for 600k, made another 1k nats the day before which sold for 300k. So as you can probably tell, I've been pretty busy. I had 1 person talk to me day begging me for help: "Plz help me man plz plz, I'll get you coal if you need it" At this point I had no idea what he was on about, I think I must had got disconnected before he started talking to me or somehting. I asked him what he was talking about and he told me that he got killed in wildy and lost a full rune set and a rune 2 hander etc. After that he started begging me for free stuff, I wasn't impressed so I just ignored him after that. Funny emails and in-game chat and 2 new runescape money tips

Hi guys, Sorry I haven't done a decent update for a few days. Been pretty busy in-game and in real life. Went to visit my nan in hospital, she's doing ok, will probably be in there for a few more weeks though :( , she had a pretty major operation. Poor woman. First, here's a few funny email's I got recently: "I HATED THOSE TIPS!!!!" Wow, all caps AND 4 exclamation marks lol? A bit extreme in my opinion, I didn't think anyone could hate a few pages of text that much lol, apparently I was wrong. Here's the simple answer, if you hate them that much, I suggest you don't read them more than once lol. "can you help me with ranging in runescpe plz.becuase im very poor and cant get any arows for my bow.so plz help me stevex." This guy was polite, which makes a very nice change from some of the beggar emails I get lol. But a beggar email is still a beggar email. Right, no1 is soo poor that they can't afford a few arrows, if you are, then you're not reading my runescape tips lol. So he was ignored :) "if you dont stop i will take action" This guy/girl is referring to my email newsletter. Take what kind of action exactly, unsubscribe? lol go ahead. I NEVER spam people, if you're on my newsletter, its because you subscribed YOURSELF and confirmed your subscription BEFORE you even recieve the first email lol. So what action were you planning on taking? I've got the date and time AND your ip addres which proves you subscribed yourself, so bring it on lol. Here's some stuff in-game that happened to me recently: I sold 433 steel bars for a full set of black (t) armour, a zammy skirt, and some rune armour and scimmies. I think that was a pretty decent deal lol. I actually refused this trade several times because I wanted cash only, but eventually I gave in and traded :) Sold the black (t) for 80k plus 57 sword fish (Which I thought were sharks at the time lol), 40 lobbies, blue d hide body and legs, both guilded :) Finally, one of my subscribers said "Hey I got 150k airs to sell you", I doubted him, but if he had them, great, I could do with more airs :) So I said "ok I only got enough cash for 43k airs at the mo (I just spent a ton of other runes and materials etc). He said "hahaha only joking" I was quite annoyed as I stopped what I was doing so I was able to talk properly and said "don't mess me around plz im very busy" He said "woah mr serious" I said "well, im a very busy man and if you waste my time it costs me time and money" He said "haha noob" I said "haha welcome to my block list" lol Annoying idiot person. That's just 1 person, if all of the thousands of my subscribers decided to joke around like that I would never get anything done and I would not be happy lol. Also, today I made 1000 nature runes and sold them all for 300k. Not too bad, certainly topped up my cash flow :) Will probably do the same again tommorrow. Might buy an abby whip in a few weeks, depending how much money I make/spend. I'll probably buy a few thousand deaths to up my magic. Trying to get to level 66 so I can break into the magic guild :) If anyone is wondering, I'm still buying airs, you must have more than 5k airs, I buy for 15 each. That's the ONLY thing I'm buying and I'm not selling anything at the moment. Behind The Scenes - April

This month we are releasing two quests based in the Varrock area. The first of these tells the story of Tolna, a young lad who left Varrock years ago to seek his fortune. Little did he know that his journey would only take him a few feet before the cruel hand of fate would snatch him up and throw him down into the pit of despair. Recent surface activity in the area has unearthed some dangerous crevices into the caves below. After all these years, can the boy still be alive? And if so, what sort of condition will he be in? Adventurers willing to take on these questions are sure to be faced with some difficult challenges but will be rewarded with new training areas and some quite fantastic cutscenes. The second quest of the month will start on the pass from Varrock to the Salve Temple. An odd old man carrying a large sack of bones has a problem and will need your help to solve it. Why is he collecting all these bones? Why is the mysterious sack on his back making odd mumbling sounds? Although this quest is designed for low level players, high end players will find a better reward from the optional "big boned" list. Later this month the gnomes get a new advantage on the Khazard Battlefield with the appearance of Battle Tortoises. These armoured tanks, mounted by mages and rangers, are sure to be quite a challenge for the General and his troops, but beware - they leave quite an impression! We are also updating the Wilderness this month with new teleportation portals and a repeatable minigame. The portals act as a new way of getting round the Wilderness, but be careful. Once a portal is activated, everyone in the immediate area will be moved away, so don't rely on it to get out of trouble... you may find that trouble follows you through! Wilderness Tag features a series of pillars dotted around the entire of the wilderness, with players being invited to tag them, similar to the way the Agility Arena works but without the timers. Players who successfully tag all the pillars (featuring various levels of difficulty) are rewarded with a generous helping of combat XP in the discipline they choose. Be careful, though, it is the Wilderness after all. As Easter approaches, the Easter Bunny starts preparing for the busy month ahead. This year, however, he is feeling a bit lazy and so has asked the local rabbits to give him a hand. Sadly, they aren't as clever as they are cute... so it's a good job the land is full of helpful adventurers to correct the mistakes they are making. With a new seasonal emote and magical eggs, we are sure you'll be happy to celebrate Easter with the kids of RuneScape. The biggest update this month will be Pest Control, a brand new player vs monster minigame. The Void Knights are a military order who have helped serve Guthix and his penchant for balance since the early God Wars. It is their job to ensure that the flux of good and evil that come through to Gielinor each day remains constant, but there are some beasts they find more difficult to accept than others. The portals they have found are nothing but pure evil, and so must be shut down at any cost. Protect the Void Knight from the invading hordes for 20 minutes or go and destroy their portals yourself while your friends rebuild the smashed barricades left behind you. With 6 new creature types and boats visiting the portals as soon as enough volunteers are available, we are confident this game will become a firm favourite for fans of cooperative gameplay. Also in April we launch city pamphlets to help newer players find out what Varrock can offer and more readers' letters, focusing on the thousands of letters you have sent in addressed to the mime.

If someone gives me they're passowrd, I'm a nice guy so I wont hack it, but still, it's a VERY bad idea to tell people your password.
