31 May 2006 - PLAYER-OWNED HOUSES!

This week sees the release of our biggest and most anticipated update this year: player-owned houses. No longer must RuneScape members wander the world endlessly, never being able to sit down or have a place to call their own. Members can build their houses and make furniture using the new Construction skill. Start by building a cottage with a few chairs around a fire, and add rooms and gain levels until you have your own palace. Some pieces of furniture will unlock new abilities, magic spell tablets, and even chairs you can sit down in. This incredible update features over 20 rooms, 330 pieces of furniture, 11 new NPCs, 12 dungeon monsters, craftable toys, new armour and shields, trophy rooms, tool racks, different architectural styles, butlers and a whole host of new games to play with your house guests! Basic houses, rooms and furniture are priced cheaply enough so that most members will be able to afford somewhere to live. We have also made lots of features for our more opulent players to be able to show off their wealth. If you get your construction level high enough and you're rich enough you can build an entire dungeon to challenge your friends, you might even be able to add your own dragon to it! Or how about a throne room? - with a throne of crystal! Fancy a change of scene? As you go up levels your house can be rebuilt in completely different designs ranging from the Rimmington “Shack” look, the Rellekkan Longhall and the Brimhaven Beach-house. To start you must buy a small house from any of the estate agents in Seers' Village (north-west of the bank), Falador (between the furnace and the east bank), Ardougne (west of the eastern bank) or Varrock (east of the castle). A full guide to the skill can be found in the Knowledge Base. Open the door to your new “home from home” today! Note - we were originally going to call this skill "Carpentry", but the range of activities involved in the skill soon got much bigger than that title, so we widened it to "Construction". Please be aware that the Tears of Guthix will not give Construction xp for a while. The god Guthix, in his immortal wisdom, does not wish to pry into your home so soon. Warmest Regards, Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

31 May 2006 - Readers' letters, bank space and game tweaks!

Need a break from the harsh world of furniture building? Try reading the May edition of the Postbag from the Hedge instead. In this issue we look carefully at how the lizards around the minimap got hired, ask Glough what he's up to, take pictures of evil penguins, give fashion tips to zombies and much more besides... Game tweaks We have added 3 more rows of bank space to the game for members only. This now gives you a grand total of 376 slots to store your stuff! More plank spawns have been added around the world. A small number of Teak and Mahogany trees have been added to the Kharazi Jungle, Ape Atoll, Uzer and the woodland just south of Castle Wars. Please note: Miscellanian resources and the Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup minigame remain effective ways to collect these valuable logs. Mort'ton general store now sells timber beams instead of planks. Timber beams can now be used in place of planks to build the Flamtaer Temple. A Warning From My Website Hosting Company

Hi guys and girls, Yesterday I got an important warning from the company that hosts my website. I'll copy and paste the email they sent me for you: "Dear Valued Customer, Our monthly traffic statistics shows that you have already used 80% of your monthly bandwidth available for runescape-tip.com. If your site exceeds your current limit of xx GB, you will need to purchase additional traffic credits. The fee for each extra x GB of traffic is x USD. You can purchase additional traffic credits for your site at your hosting account If you reach the 100% of the quota before the end of the current month, your hosting service for runescape-tip.com will not be disabled automatically. However, your hosting service will be subject to suspension in case you don’t submit the payment for the excessive bandwidth used. If you have any further questions, please, do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you! Best regards, Account Department" So what does this mean? It means that the site is so popular, that the website is getting very close to going over the monthly limit for what it can handle in terms of the number of people going to it. That might sound bad, but it's actually fantastic. This means that there are a LOT more members on the forum (And there's a LOT more to come) and there are a lot of people looking at the website. So it means I'm helping LOADS of people and it's only going to go up from here :) I'll be getting the new tips section up either tommorrow or possibly the day after. I'll let you know before hand and when it's actually there :) Warmest regards, Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

Massive Increase In Sign-Ups

Hi guys and girls, Just wanted to let you know something quite special. I went out last night and got back today at 9pm. I checked to see how many newsletter subscribers that I'd had since I left. Normally it's about 24 per day, but to my amazement I had a staggering 85 newsletter signups in a 24 hour period :O :O :O Needless to say that this is down to a few well written pages that I created to attract more people to the site. Infact, the number of the people to the site more than doubled from just over 700 people a day to more then 1,500 people yesterday. It should continue to increase for a few more days, and then I'll tweak and write a few more pages to draw even more people in. This means more people on the forum, and more people to help. Not only that, but if you're a buyer or a seller on the forum, you'll be able to buy and sell stuff much more quickly than you could before. Also, the new and improved runescape money making tips section is going to be available soon, and constantly updated to make sure that if there's a way to make money in runescape, you'll know it. If you haven't signed up to the forum yet, I strongly suggest you do. Warmest regards, Stephen Warren, www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

Money Making Tips Section Getting An Overhaul

Hi guys and girls, Just wanted to let you know that I'm just putting the finishing touches on the brad new money making tips section. Before it was difficult to navigate and just plain annoying. When I release the new verysion in the very near future, it should be very easy to find all the money tips you like in easy to navigate sections. They'll be divided into which skills they require, or all of the tips all at once if you don't want to navigate through the menus. I'll let you know when it's comming. It should only be a few days away as I'm almost finished :) Also, the forum has reached a staggering 400 members in just a few short weeks. If you haven't signed up already, you're really missing out. Click the link to the forum now and check out all the great info there Warmest Regards, Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

22 May 2006 - Royal Trouble

Those of you who made peace in Miscellania may find that all is not well when you return. King Vargas has started a war with Etceteria again, and he and Queen Sigrid agree on one thing - it's up to you, the Regent of Miscellania, to sort it out. War? What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Make your way back to the islands north of Rellekka to get to the bottom of it. Find out what's happening in the Miscellanian dungeons, and why things have been mysteriously going missing, or both kingdoms will be in for some Royal Trouble! Those brave enough to once again step in between these raging monarchs will be rewarded with a generous helping of Agility, Slayer and Hitpoints XP. In addition to that, they can also call on the services of Etcetaria to join in with collecting resources for them, this time providing farming seeds, mahogany and teak. We've also improved the rewards from the first quest in the series (Throne of Miscellania). Players can now ask their subjects to collect flax as well, and each type of resource has its own bonus rewards if you tell enough of your subjects to work hard at it. Your subjects will also collect more resources than before for the same amount of money and time! Read more about it in our Knowledge Base article about Managing Miscellania. Our new QuestHelp system will be updated with hints for Royal Trouble tomorrow. Two new Random Events Pinball The mysterious old man has built himself a strange device he calls a pinball table, although he has unusual ideas about what pinball actually is. It's one enormous table where trolls stand guard with clubs as the flippers! Naturally he's keen to whisk away players to get involved, this time to be used as the balls! In this random event the player must run around a giant pinball table tagging ten poles. You can't tag any old poles, though, only the ones with rings around them. If you tag the wrong pole your score goes back to zero and you have to start again. Grab The Evil Twin Molly has always had difficulty with her twin sister, probably because her twin is an evil twin. Continuing in the amusement arcade theme from the pinball event, she's rigged up a giant claw to try and catch her sister and drop her in a cage, she just needs you to operate the controls. The only problem is that Molly's twin managed to bring four innocent citizens with her. Simply move the claw around using the control panel until the red target is on the girl that looks just like Molly, then hit the 'Grab' button to hoist her into the air and dump her in the cage. See the Random Events article in our Knowledge Base for more details on both of these events. Warmest regards, Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

New Video Of The Week - Trunk Monkey

Hi guys and girls, Just thought I'd let you know about my release of another video of the week. It's called trunk monkey, an imaginary product from a auto parts/car manufacturer. It's quite funny :) On a side note, now that I've done quite a lot of updates to the forum to make it more fun for you all, I'm going to spend more time getting some money making tips up and running. I've got a little idea for it as well. I'm thinking about dividing all of the money making tips into categories such as "money making skills related to combat" and the other skills, then a general section. Then I'll list all of the free ones all together in one section if you dson't want to use the cetegories, I'll then do the same for p2p money making tips. So that gives you something to look forward to :) Warmest regards, Stephen Warren, www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

166 New Games Added To The Forum

Hi guys and girls, I just wanted you to know that I've added a total of about 166 games to the forum. That should certainly keep you busy for a while ;) And that's not all, you can challenge other people in the forum to a game and if you are confident, you can bet your hard earned points that you'll win, or you could just challenge eachother for fun. The highest scorer for a game gets a golden trophy, 2nd highest gets a silver trophy. Can you make it to the hall of fame? I've also added a lottery that (At the moment) draws every 5 days, will you be the lucky winner? Tickets only cost 1 point each (At the moment), so get yours quickly. Also, I've added a bookmakers section, this is where you can gamble your points on the outcome of a specific event. Forexample, it could be "will steve win at castle wars this time, how many kills, how many times will he capture the standard", or it could be based on an ACTUAL sports event, or any other real life event. No events are available yet, but they're comming soon :) Keep your eyes peeled, because some time next week, I plan on releasing a new text based rpg game. You should find it really enjoyable, I'll let you know when it's ready and available. If you want to play the games in the forum and check out all the other new features, such as the bank, you need to sign-up to the forum: www.runescape-tip.com/forum Warmest regards, Stephen Warren, www.runescape-tip.com

17 May 2006 - Do not use your RuneScape password on other sites!

***Admin Note*** Please note that runescape.com is not referring to THIS fan site. My password database is perfectly fine and secure I don't know which website they are referring to, but it's not this one For the sake of security, it might be a good idea to change your passwords in your profile if you use the same password for runescape, or vice versa, whatever you choose. But either way, make sure you WRITE YOUR NEW PASSWORD DOWN, if you choose to change it ***Admin Note*** We would like to remind ALL our players to use a unique password for RuneScape. It is very dangerous to use the same password that you use on other websites. It has just been brought to our attention that a large unofficial fansite (NOT our site) has had their password database stolen. And in fact has been leaking usernames+passwords for some time. Remember that RuneScape fansites are not operated by Jagex and don't necessarily have the same level of security that we do here, and yet thousands (!) of players have needlessly risked their accounts by using the same password in both places! So if you've used the same password on RuneScape and an external fansite then change your RuneScape password now. Otherwise you might just login and find all your items gone. It's so important I'll say it again. DO NOT USE YOUR RUNESCAPE PASSWORD FOR ANY OTHER WEBSITE. Particularly not for unofficial RuneScape fansites. This incident shows why! Finally I'd like to reassure users that our own security has in no way been compromised. As long as your RuneScape password is unique there is no risk from this. Warmest Regards, Stephen Warren, www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

16 May 2006 - Changes to Pest Control

Although the main focus of this week's update was the huge change to the game engine, we have also made some minor adjustments to the popular minigame, Pest Control. In response to feedback from players, we have slightly weakened some of the attacking monsters. Furthermore, successful players will find that they can now accumulate up to 250 Void Knight Commendation Points rather than being stopped when they reach 15. This is to give you the opportunity to save up points to buy exciting new rewards that will be released soon. Down in the Kharidian desert, Slayers will also find that the desert lizards have had a slight change too. The smaller varieties of desert lizard now have the same Slayer level requirement as the adult desert lizards did, and they can now only be killed with the aid of icy water, available from your local Slayer Master. Warmest Regards, Stephen Warren, www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

16 May 2006 - Game engine upgraded!

Today finally sees the launch of our latest game engine upgrade. This is the biggest upgrade to the underlying engine which runs the game since we launched the new 3D engine two years ago, and I've been working on it for literally months. However this time the changes are more under the hood, which means (if everything goes to plan) you shouldn't actually notice a huge amount of difference! The game engine upgrades this time are focused on allowing us to make the game bigger and on providing support for all sorts of features we want to do in future updates. These are the sort of changes that you won't see immediately, but do allow us to do all sorts of things in the future which we've been dying to do, but couldn't previously. However there will still be quite a few improvements that you will see immediately, such as: The first time you load the new engine it will take slightly longer than normal to load as it imports all the data from the old engine. However it only ever has to do that once, and from then on you can look forward to much faster loading times and much faster update times. Greatly reduced memory use. Vastly improved sound compatibility, including sound support in Firefox. Better sound engine which can play more sounds at once. Improved chat filter. Again this is a whole new technology and we might need to tweak it a bit so please be patient with it, but it should in the long run give less false positives whilst still protecting the chat. Far better anti-macro technology. Better compatibility with dual CPU computers. Better compatibility with firewalls. Better language support, with support for accented characters in chat, etc. But of course it mainly consists of underlying changes to let us do more exciting stuff in upcoming updates... Massive Forum Updates

Hi guys and girls, I've been working for 2 solid days to get these updates to you. Many hours of hard work. I really hope you like it. Here's the new changes. I've made it so that you can now put in your birthday in, and the forum will let everyone know when its 7 days away, then on your birthday it will congratulate you :) There is a reputation modification I've now made. You earn reputation by the number of posts you have and people can give you a good or bad reputation by the votes they give you :) And finally, (And probably most fun of all), when you post, make topics and recieve replies from topics you create, you earn money, or points, which you can spend in the shop (When I make it), that will be able to make the forum much more fun to use when you by upgrades with the points you've earned :) I'm also working on adding a few games to the website as well. If I can get it to work, I'll also add an rgp type game, I've had trouble with that part so I'm not sure, but I'll do my best for all of you :) Here's the forum so you can see the new changes: www.runescape-tip.com/forum Warmest Regards Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com

Close Brush With Death And New Pest Control Experience

Hi all, Me and bobbyjoe went to the wilderness last night, (My idea, I wanted to pick pocket rogues :) ). I can't remember how far we go in, maybe about level 30 ish, then bang, 2 guys run up and start attacking. 1 Ran off, the other continued attacking bobbyjoe, unfortunately my level was lower than hers so I was unable to help her out :( If I could have helped we would have easily kicked his butt, she early done it on her own lol. She had her abby whip with her so naturally I was a little worried when the tide turned against her. She ran for the level which would have teleported her back, but didn't make it :( Lucky for her, she's really smart and put on the protect 1 extra item i.e. the whip, so she saved it :) I told the guy I didn't have nething, and as I was wearing nothing he could have just let me go, but no, he decided to attack as well, grrrrr. So I ran to the lever and I made it. I don't think we'll go pking for a while lol. Not untill we go as an entire clan at least ;) hehe. About 30 of us roaming the wilderness all together, a force to be feared indeed :) We also tried pest control again. This time we only lost a few times and won about 13 time lol, a major turn around from a few days ago. Another quick update. I went to craft nature runes in the abyss, at 6am!!!!! and I got pk'ed, how annoying, who'd have thought that pk'ers would be on the loose at that time in the morning. I now have to get 3 more pouches AGAIN. grrrr. Life goes on lol. Warmest regards, Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

The New Quest Help System

Introducing the QuestHelp system! We know it can be very frustrating to get partway through a quest only to hit a puzzle you just can't solve. However, we also know that simply resorting to looking up the entire solution can take all the fun out of the quest and often results in you seeing more solution than you wanted to see. This can leave you with the feeling that you didn't really solve bits you could have done. Therefore we're proud to announce the launch of our new QuestHelp system! The system looks at your current progress in the game to identify your exact position within a quest and then offers hints on how to get past the point you are currently stuck at. Even better, the hint system is able to give 'cryptic' hints, which are just enough to get you thinking in the right direction, but still allow you to enjoy solving the puzzle for yourself. If that's not enough it can then give a more detailed hint to help you get past the sticking point. Additionally, some hints contain maps and images that provide excellent visual clues to aid you during your quest. The system will give you up to 4 hints a day. Of course you don't have to use all 4 and for maximum enjoyment of the quests we would recommend only using the QuestHelp system when you find yourself otherwise stumped. For the moment the QuestHelp system is a beta and provides help for all of our free quests. We will be looking to add the members quests next, just as soon as we can get all those hints written! So you can look forward to those being released in batches in the future. There are a couple of reasons we started with just free player quests. Firstly, the majority of our game related queries are from free players. This will hopefully free up a significant part of our Customer Relations team, who can then be re-shifted to focus on processing game abuse and cheating reports even quicker, improving the game environment for all of our players! During the beta version, we also hope to get your ideas and suggestions via our forums to make the QuestHelp system as helpful as possible, which we can then look to take into account as we update with help for all of our members quests. You can log-in to the QuestHelp system from the main front page and also from the Knowledge Base. For more information about the QuestHelp system, view the QuestHelp Knowledge Base article. Tried My Hand At "Pest Control" For The First Time

Hi guys and girls, I just wanted to share my experiences of Pest Control for anyone who ahsn't done it yet. It can be an extremely fun game, or an extremely annoying game lol. For me (Because it was my frst time), it was a bit of both lol. The first one we lost, second we won, third we won, and EVERY other game we lost lol. I must have played about 20 games or more. Maybe that's how it is, maybe I was just extremely unlucky. Now I don't mind losing, it's just when I lose way more than half the time is when I get really annoyed lol. Perhaps I just ended up on a crap team most of the time. Oh well. I suppose it didn't help that when I attack the portal I barely ever get a hit, and when I do it's normally only a 4 max lol. I'm working on my combat because it definately needs work. I would mage it, but I don't have enough runes on me lol. Maybe that should be a goal for tonight, get some runes and mage the crud out of everything :) Anyway, it's a great game, and if you're a member, you've got to try it. It's really good for experience (When you win) and it gives you something to distract you from all the quests lol. Warmest regards, Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

My Recovery And My Idea

Hi guys and girls, Another quick update. Everyone seems to love the forum, which is great and they are loving the new chat room too, which is wonderful. Soon it will fill up with more people and become even more active. Now onto my recovery story. As most of you know, I lost a grand total of about 700k the day before yesterday, I wasn't impresed lol. But thankfully, with the help of bobbyjoe, I've fully recovered and made myself over 1.2 million. So that made up for it. It just means that I wasted 1 day lol. Now onto another 1 of my ideas. The idea came to me soon after I got the chat room up and running. I know how to create an automated chat bot, which can have a personality that I create, and any knowledge that I want to give it. I thoguht to myself, "I'm just one guy, even if I stayed online 24/7 theres no way I can help everyone." So I came up with creating an automated chat bot, filled with as much knowledge about runescape as possible. That way, people can talk to it, and ask ANY question about runescape that they have, and the robot will give an accurate answer every time :) How great would that be? NOt to mention it would massively reduce the number of in-game pm's I get, as well as emails. However, it will be a LONG time before I get something like that up lol. It will take many months of careful programming, and I'm not even sure if it's 100% possible, as the amount of information it would have to hold would be massive. But I could create it with information bit by bit. I doubt I'll teach it anything about quests, because that's what the quest gudies are for lol, that would greatly reduce the time it takes to make. Perhaps I should do a price chat bot first to practise with and see how that goes. All ideas are welcome. Warmest regards, Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

What Goes Around Comes Around, and BIG NEWS

Hi guys and girls, I've got lotsa of stories for you today and some BIG NEWS. First of all (Because I want to keep you in suspense :) ), I'll tell you the stories I've got. First one, this guy comes into Flador West bank, poisoned some how. He's obviously scrambling to trying and stick all his items in his bank. He died and failed. He left behind a BERSERKER ring (Apparently worth 5 million), rune armour, and an obby shield as well as some other stuff. This one guy yells, "OMFG!!!!! berserker ring, ohhhh yeah, 5 mill baby", so we know that he got it lol. I got the obby shield worth about 650k ish, I don't really keep track of the prices. This guy was SUPER upset. He was desperately trying to get that ring back from the guy, but the guy was not giving up, no way. I felt really bad for him so I gave him his shield back. He said Thank you very much, and said no more about it. Kinda wish I kept it now lol. Oh well, I know for next time lol. And besides, no-one would do that for me! Well you guys might lol, but most people wouldn't. Oh well, bad decision on my part. Secondly, I went the the abyss, and I FORGOT TO BRING TELEPORT RUNES, I panicked because I was wearing full rune and have 3 pouches with me, so I asked someone nicely if I could trade 20 swordfish for some teleport runes, he very generously gave me a dueling ring for free lol. It didn't ocour to me until after I left, that I could have just walked through the air rift and back into Falador lol. Which brings me to my next story. A VERY dangerous scam!!! This one is easy to fall for because you don't know exactly what's going to happen or when. This guy, decent level of about 60 combat ish, says, you want 200k? I obviously said yes and he said follow me. I was already suspicious because I didn't know how I was going to get this 200k. He led me to Falador park, gave me a candle, a spade and a tinder box. He told me to dig, so I did. We ended up underground. I panicked because I had no idea how to get out lol. I was wearing FULL rune, had a rune scimmy, and because of a few good sales, I had 550k CASH on me. He told me to put out the light, so like an idiot I did. And I started getting attacked. Needless to say I died quickly, as it was about 5 damage a second. He probably took my stuff and was very happy. Reported. I had another subscriber tell me that this happened to him (Althoguh I doubt his loss was bigger than mine lol), so it was probably the same guy, so he'll be banned soon. Please don't fall for that. In retrospect it was incredibly obvious what was gunna happen lol, what can I say, it was about 11:30pm lol. Ok..... you've waited long enough, now you're going to hear my BIG NEWS. Many people on the forums have asked about it, now you've got it. For the first time EVER, never before seen on ANY runescape related website, we now have a LIVE chat room which you're all welcome to join for free. here's the link: www.runescape-tip.com/chat-room.htm Can also be found by clicking the link on the right side of the home page. I hope you enjoy it. Warmest Regards Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

A Great Trip To The Abyss

Hi guys and girls, I had a great trip to the Abyss today. I didn't just find a medium pouche to store 6 more rune essence in, I ALSO, found a large pouche that carries another 9 rune essence. AND, not only that, I also found a clue scroll :) I followed the clue, which lead me to another clue scroll, which lead me to an anogram. And after all that, all I got was 97 water runes, a green dragon hide body and 9 sword fish not really a great prize at all lol. Better than nothing I suppose. Those rune essence pouches will almost double the rate at which I make runes, and when I start using the abyss to start runecrafting, it will triple :) Thought I better mention this little update as I'm quite pleased with it :) warmest regards Stephen Warren www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

Big PK Scare

Hi guys and girls, I thought I'd share with you my first taste of player killing :) I was in the wilderness, level 22, killing unicorns for their horns. I had about half an inventory, and all i was wearing was a rune plate, rune scimmy and rune shield, that's 3 items, so I wasn't too worried about getting killed, but I certainly didn't wanna lose the unicorn horns either. Then out of nowhere 3 players appeared, 2 skulled, 1 not. I said hi, being the friendly person I am and they just stood there, so I didn't think much of it and went about my business. Then the non skulled 1 started attacking me, first he snared me, so he was at least a level 50 mage, then the started ranging me, I have no idea why because I was wearning melee armour and ranging is weak against it. I ran as fast as I could, but got snared again, in total I was snared about 4 times before I got away, a VERY lucky escape. Next time I'll remember to bring teleport runes lol, I actually though, "oh well, I've left without them, I did fine last time, should be ok this time" lol. I hope you enjoyed that, it certainly got my heart pumping at the time lol. Warmest regards Stephen Warren, www.runescape-tip.com www.runescape-tip.com/forum

3 May 2006 - RuneScape - Better than ever!

In the Customer Relations team we have over two thirds of our Moderators dedicated to processing your abuse reports as quickly as possible, as well as dealing with macro users and real world traders. Jagex Moderators are also assigned to tracking where the profits of cheating have gone, resulting in the banning not only of scam accounts but also of the main accounts of those who persist in scamming. In addition to this, we are constantly recruiting honest player moderators to help us to identify and remove disruptive elements from the game. Beyond the Customer Relations team our Content team is constantly looking into ways to alter the game itself to reduce the ability for people to cheat, for example the recent creation of the Bank PINs and the essence mine changes. The main source of information on rule breakers comes from you - our players. Every abuse report we receive is actioned accordingly and will be recorded on the offending player's permanent record. Processing the abuse reports cannot be done instantly, and action taken happens behind the scenes, so we cannot guarantee that you will always see the offending player being removed from the game - however the good news is that we are now more successful than ever at processing abuse reports quickly and seeking to educate players. Those who are not willing to be educated are removed. So if you are an honest player, you can do your bit to help all this by sending in Abuse Reports whenever you see someone breaking the rules. You can also help yourself by keeping both your account and your PC safe - advice on how to do this being found in the Knowledge Base. And if you're a dishonest player you can do your bit by stopping breaking the rules now. We will find you and we will ban you if you don't play by our rules. 2 May 2006 - Return of the Wise Old Man!

A long time ago, the Wise Old Man of Draynor Village won instant wealth and notoriety by robbing his local bank. Since then he's lived fairly peacefully in his little house, under constant surveillance from the bank staff and his nosy (and hideous) neighbour. But the world has not forgotten this elderly hero, and the time has come for him to embark on one final quest to bring his adventurous career to a fitting conclusion... Jump on the little boat moored in the river west of the Gnome Stronghold and travel northwards to the coast where you'll find a struggling fishing colony under attack from vicious sea trolls. Herman Caranos, the director, needs a highly qualified adventurer to help save his colony from ruin. If you meet his exacting standards, you could earn yourself a large reward (including prayer xp) and gain access to a new area with a bank where you can catch an entirely new kind of fish! swan song: A person's final deed or performance before their retirement or death. This is based on the traditional folk-tale that a swan sings a beautiful song just before it dies. In other news... Following feedback from players about the Wilderness changes in last week's update, we've flattened the area near the Greater Demon ruins. Lava in the Wilderness should no longer block you from ranging across it. The new volcano at the north-eastern end of the Wilderness is now a multiway combat area. The "Crumbling tome" you find during the In Aid of the Myreque quest has been renamed to "Battered tome" because it was being confused with the crumbling tome found near the Barrows. 2 May 2006 - Behind the Scenes - May

This month sees the launch of our next big game engine upgrade, which Andrew has been working on for the last 6 months. This will be the biggest upgrade to the underlying engine which runs the game since we launched the new 3D engine two years ago. This time the changes are more under the hood, which means (if everything goes to plan) you shouldn't actually notice a huge amount of difference! The game engine upgrades this time are focused on allowing us to make the game bigger, and on providing support for all sorts of features we want to do in future updates. These are the sort of changes that you won't see immediately, but do allow us to do all sorts of things in the future which we've been dying to do, but couldn't previously. However there will still be quite a few improvements that you will see immediately, such as: Much faster loading times. Faster, cleaner updates. When we update the game it should download more quickly. Greatly reduced memory use, resulting in a smoother game. Vastly improved sound compatibility. Sound should work on far more machines, and work on firefox, and sound will even work in low detail mode with no performance loss. Better sound engine, with the ability to play more simultaneous sounds at a higher quality, which we will be using to introduce ambient background sound effects at a later date. Improved chat filter. Far better anti-macro technology. Those cheats are in for one huge shock! :-) Better compatibility with dual CPU computers. Better compatibility with firewalls. Better language support, with support for accented characters in chat, etc. And of course lots of underlying changes to let us do more exciting stuff in the future... So... to the quests. The first of this month's quests asks the player to persuade the Wise Old Man to come out of retirement for just one last battle. Many years ago, he was possibly one of the greatest legends in the world – the most powerful adventurer in the land. Fame and fortune can cost dearly, though, so he hung up his mystic boots and followed a more careful life, offering help to new visitors to Draynor Village and causing the odd, erm, panic in the local bank. The time has come for him to dust off his armour and once again stand in front of the crusading hordes – but this time with you at his side! Great rewards, humour and some fantastic cutscenes have made this a firm favourite in the office during the past few months – we hope you enjoy it. The second quest brings new life to the struggle between Miscellania and Etceteria, with the player investigating odd sounds and sightings coming from beneath the Miscellanian soil. Perhaps some great evil has risen from the deep, or perhaps it's those pesky Etceterians up to no good. Those players who have helped out King Vargas before will be invited to do so again, this time potentially adding the Etceterians to their pool of resources. This in turn means that the island will have new resources available for the locals to collect – including flax, seeds and even bird nests! We will also be rebalancing the normal Miscellania rewards to be more generous and less demanding, so you might be surprised what they can offer you. Other updates this month include some new random events which ask the player to Grab the Evil Twin. Players operate a winch and crane with a large claw attached to the bottom – similar to the games you can see at fairgrounds. We also see the player being whisked off to a large troll area having to prod the correct pillars, just like a giant pinball machine! We are also adding some other smaller features to the game later this month, such as clockwork toys for your cats, teleportation tablets, making your own cups of tea and even chairs you can sit down in. Have fun! Warmest regards Stephen Warren www.runescsape-tip.com www.runescsape-tip.com/forum
